I'm not sure if there's any person in my life that I haven't recommended this game to. I even bought a cake for its 20th birthday. Where do I even start? First of all, this is a spin-off game. If you're not familiar with Sims spin-off's, they're mostly well known for their fever dream type zaniness; The Sims 2 for PlayStation Portable is no exception.
This game follows you, the player, untangling the mysteries of Strangetown. It's not long before you discover what's going on here-- one sim, a particular Doctor Dominic Newlow, has gone rogue. While once a humble EMT, the unforgiving work/buy cycle of life jaded him into a shell of his former self. Of course, though, it's not all bad. His constant grind had given leeway to an enhanced sense of logic, one that allowed him to uncover the true cause of his problems: a green diamond resting above his head. The plumbob. Now, what does he do with this discovery? Of course, he reverse engineers the thing in order to control his neighbors to put forth a grand scheme that will release him from this cruel life simulation-- and it culminates in a battle with your character! yes, YOU ARE THE PROTAGONIST! You are being controlled by an outside force!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!
Also, funny side note: almost every review of this game comments on the overwhelming bisexuality of it all. And they're right to do so-- not only can you romance sims regardless of gender, but it's actually incentivized through the secrets mechanic! This is also really special to me because not many other Sims spin-offs can say they include same sex relationships... >:P
As I mentioned, The Sims 2 (PSP) takes place in Strangetown, a name you may be familiar with from the PC game. While very much based on the PC version, The Sims 2 (PSP) Strangetown is slightly different from the original. Here are some of my favorite PSP exclusive characters....
Deputy Duncan

Local sheriff/boytoy/manwhore. Love this slut.
Dominic Newlow

Canonically has a humiliation kink. Still not entirely sure why this is in the game.
Roberta Rossum

Strangetown's stepford wife. Also my favorite character :-)
Isaac Rossum

Sims creator Will Wright's self insert.
Hazel Dente

I would marry her and it would be so, so worth it.
Hoot Howell

Nighthowl was definitely supposed to be a gay bar.
Annie Howell

For some reason, I exclusively refer to her as "Mimi" in my head. She has never been referred to as that anywhere.
Sinjin Balani

Confusing family ties aside, this is one cool guy.
Tycho Curious

The man, the myth, the legend.
Tina & Ashton

These guys didn't even make it into the final game and I'm still obsessed with them. Also, they invented bisexuality.
